XS1100 rear shocks same as Virago?

I am in need of rear shocks all of the Used XS shocks I find are not much better than mine. I have looked for new but I have only found two companys that make then,Dixie and Progressive.The Dixies are low quality and the progressives are very expensive. I have recently replaced the shocks on a friends Virago 1000 and remember that they look very similar. Does anyone know if these shocks are interchangable. If so it would make a large quanity of late model shocks available. I got the set for the virago off of Ebay in perfect shape for $15,They were off of a low mile 95'. Thanks for any help!

XS Rear Shocks

Dan, I have purchased 2 sets now from Mikes XS in Florida. I have run the first set for almost 3 years now (over 20,00 km) and am pleased. They still work fine, no leaks and still look good.
They come with progressive chrome springs.
I purchased the long or tall ones; 13 3/16' long. Part # XS # 06-3601. 3 years ago the price was $69.00 a pair but has now climbed to $75.00 a pair.
I bought the long ones to gain more road clearance, more shock travel, easier to put bike up on center stand and it also increases the bikes "trail" on the front end for faster turn in (more "flickable)

if you go into www.xs1100.co.uk and go into the link section you can go to a web site that may help you to find the parts you need,the site is a new one that has just been done but it is still not finished,i got two brand new ones for a total £75 one from ebay and one from classic bike show on sunday just gone.i will try some suppliers over here in the uk and let you know.

I measured the shocks on SWMOB's 96 Virago and they are 11½" center to center (eye) with the bike on the centerstand. Both ends look the same as on my XS1100. I can't vouch for the diameter of the eye holes, I'm not going to remove hers to check .
I think they would work.

OK as you all know, my shocks are kaka.
The right one is leaking oil, etc... is a mess.
There's a pair on ebay, bout 1.5mm longer than stock. What does this do to geometry?

Hey Strom,

You're kidding, right? 1.5mm longer!?!? Did you mean 15mm?? I can't read German or whatever language that ad was in, so can't discern the description/specs, but the photos show an XS11 with them mounted on it, looks totally stock in "Geometry" to me! 1.5mm should be imperceptable in how the bike sits!! I wouldn't be worried about them at either 1.5mm or even 15mm longer!! GO FOR IT!

You can pick up a good set of shocks at most Harley shops for around $50.00. The eye holes are smaller so you have to replace the bushings with the old ones but otherwise they work great.
