Hey there buick, Thats true if you have the stock bars on the special. You'll notice that the fluid reservor is slanted. Thats because when mounted on the stock bars, it sits flat. Standard models with shorter "flat" bars came with a reservor that is flat to coencide with the lack of angle on the bar. I went from stock bars to shorter ones, so I had to get a different master cyl. so that I could keep from sucking air. Look at this pic and you'll see what happened to the stock master cyl. when mounted on standard type bars. 2nd pic shows a master cyl. from a standard.

The stock master cylinder from a Virago should work on the specials. It looks identical the the PnM cylinder but is on the special bars. If nothing else it may be slanted too much.
If the resevoir is filled then it dosen't matter if it's tilted or not as long as it's sealed. I turn my bars to the left when filling mine and I know fluid would come out if it wasn't capped.

I believe you can purchase the same master cylinder from MIKE'S XS for less money and he pays the shipping. It's listed as a dual disc upgrade for the XS650.
I'm interested in the VIRAGO option. What was the last year for the VIRAGO with the buckhorn bars? Is the master cylinder for that bike still available new from YAMAHA?

My XS has handlebard that are (or are eerilly close to) stock standard bars. I imagined that this might be the issue. Currenltly, I've been having front brake issues. Other than the spooge hole fix, I suspected that the MC didn't sit very flat and might be causing some of the problem. Perhaps it is.

The Virago I looked at is a 96 (my wifes XV1100). I do have another MC from PnM that I bought for wifes XS750 and haven't installed yet. I would sell it for the $74 it cost me. Still brand new in the package.

Hey, great pic/post. I actually just put flatter bars on my LG over the weekend and encountered the slanted reservoir problem. Looks like I have to add this aftermarket MC to my to-buy list along with Randy's SS brake lines (which it appears will have to be special ordered for the shorter bars).
Speaking of flatter bars -- I put these relatively cheap Bike Master (I think) black Daytona bend bars on mine...about 15 bucks -- what shorter clutch cable did you replace the stock one with? I've just routed mine above and across the speedo. It works, but is a short term fix.
