  • XS1100SG which pilot jets

Which one of these pilot jets is correct for my bike? I've been getting terrible fuel economy for some time and I'm running out of ideas. How do I get the correct pilot jets?

I should be the one on the left but also those in the pic have 8 air bleed holes in the sides. The correct ones only have 6. A 2-1-2-1 setup.

That's what I have. 6 holes. 42.5 slow 110 mains. 30 mpg at best. Pulling my hair out.

What do your plugs look like?

I continuously get mid to high 20s with mine unless I ride at 55 - 60 MPH. I've gotten up to about 42 MPG at those speeds. My plugs look perfect so I've jus accepted it.

Black. Follow me and you'll smell gasoline. Someone at VYR said I had the wrong slow jets. Beats me.

I dislike the late carbs with a passion. I had early carbs on okie even be for I swapped to the F engine.

Have you tried lowering your float levels? 1/2 mm .at a time and see if it gets better

I assume you mean lower the fuel level in the bowl? Or do you intend an increase to the level?

Also, these brass fittings. What are they and where do I get them?

              Thanks for the help, Greg.

Yes, lower the fuel level. You should be able to get those fittings at just about any hardware store. Brass fittings in the plumbing dept.

One other thought, be sure the air bleed holes are clear in the emulsion tubes. If they are blocked, clogged ,you will run rich as well.

The air jets on the air cleaner side of the carbs too.

Marty, Greg IS correct by suggesting lowering the fuel bowl levels 1/2 a mm. Also, make sure all four fuel bowl levels are equal with engine at an idle. BTW, 1/2 a mm. equals .012 using a slide dial indicator for float level check.

Any confusion correction: 1/2 mm of fuel level change IS equivalent to a .012 actual change of fuel bowl levels.

Thanks Motoman. I'm going to make sure the correct needles are installed this evening. I'll have to put it away for a couple of days.

I should see 5GL16 with a magnifying glass?

Yeppers, have to use one myself in order to see that embossed designation on side of pilot jets near the top portion of jet.

Apologize, meant metering rods, not pilot jets.
