  • new tire WILL NOT fill.

    It was put on correctly.

brand new michelin commander II; correct size (100/90 b19).

    leaking out of the rim.

took wheel weights off to see if that helped...of course it didn't.

took it to the garage up the street...they couldn't help me. said I needed to use a cheetah to get it on.

so then I called cycle gear, and I quote: "we wouldn't have any other special tools other than what you have at your house."

tried the redneck starting fluid trick...NOPE.

IT'S BEEN TWO DAYS OF TRYING STUFF / BUYING THINGS TO TRY TO GET THIS ON. I'M OVER IT. Anything I can do??? I'm pissed.

    leaking rim

    (1) the rim is/was cleaned
    (2) slippery soap or another tire mounting lubrication used on the bead
    (3) no damage to rim or tire
    (4) check the air pressure at the compressor
    (5) debris in-between the tire and rim

I imagine you have done all this so, put a ratcheting tie down around the tire to try and squeeze, expand it against the rim and try again

I have had to put a rope or ratchet strap around the perimeter of a few of my tires to get them to grab the rim enough to start filling.

If you don't have a ratchet strap, you can tie a rope around the circumference of the tire, and insert a stick under the rope, and twist the stick to force the tire out against the rim.

So, I've officially tried every possible trick you can as of now. no matter what, still an air leak, always on one side. when I try to push to seal it, it doesn't work, or just moves to another spot. the best i've gotten was 5 psi. i'm convinced that this brand new freakin' tire is defective. NEVER had a problem like this.

It can also help (I think) to pull out the valve core to fill the tire rapidly.

I tried using a heat gun as well...no dice. the tire is SOOOOO close...it just looks off a bit on one quadrant (which I thought would fill in). Is there anything I can use to fill in that gap?? I'm having a hard time believing that the TINY space that's void is preventing this from inflating. there's no leaks in the tire elsewhere at ALL...checked that thoroughly. Just in two small spots in any given quadrant.

This is going to sound ridiculous (grasping at straws here), but would there be any way that fix-a-flat would help any?? this SUCKS...SO BAD. I was psyched to get that tire on there...

Sounds like bead isn't totally seating on rim. May try having very ittle air in tire(5psi), then bounce mounted tire as wheel is rotated. Occassionally, this helps to seat bead of tire to rim.

I took mine one time to an automotive tire shop and the fellas there got the bead seated, I gave him $10 I think. They will have a strong air compressor. What type of air compressor are you using? Small unit probably won't cut it in your case.

I would throw a tube in it.

                      Second that

I second trying to Bounce the tire at lower pressure, a lot all the way around, and if you dont want to worry, pop a tube in, or put in 10 oz. of Ride ON tire sealant and balancer in the valve stem, and ride it till it seals. Hope it works one way or another,,,,good luck,,,,Mike in SUnny DIego

Take a bit of cardboard and make a "T" shaped cutout that just fits inside the rim. Slowly rotate the rim and see if it's bent slightly at the bead area. If it is always the same side/place on the rim that could be part of the problem. If so, just run a tube.
