  • XS1100E rear view mirror disassembly

How do you disassemble a stock rear view mirror? I bought a NOS mirror on line, installed it, and after one ride something is loose inside. Sounds heavy whatever it is. I suppose there is a trick unless the glass is glued in place in which case I'm hosed. Any suggestions folks?

    mirror

I've saved many mirror parts over the years, do you have a picture of what you have ?
I may have the exact part, like new or at least one like it you could try taking apart to see how it's done
    So got a pic ?

If something fell off on the inside and you can get the mirror part off of the stem you can stick a screwdriver in the back side and push the mirror out of the plastic housing. I've done this before. I've heard some say that you can stick the mirror/housing part in hot water. The plastic expands more/faster then the mirror and it will fall out.

If you need to pry the glass out, carefully do so with a plastic putty knife and by NO means use anything metal or you will looking for another glass, BTDT.

Some good thoughts guys, especially the hot water deal. I found an old beat up mirror in one piece. Will try that approach though I hope it doesn't take more than one assembly to figure this out. Here is a pic of the assembly per one request:
