  • Syncing Carbs

Can someone explain the Proper hose hook up system so sync my carbs? I have had a friend do it before but tuned mine and need to re sync.

I have read the main directions from the carb sync page, but get mixed up in one spot and want to make sure I get it right.

"Remove the vacuum line from the #2 carb on the manifold side of the carb, this is the one from the vacuum control splitter, not the vacuum advance line."
I get confused here..Vacuum control splitter??

Remove the rubber caps from #1, #3, and #4 carbs.
Connect the mercury sync tool to carb #1-#4 where the caps/vacuum hose was disconnected"

My carb boots ALL have caps on them, not just 1,3,4. The vacuum advance line runs to a brass pole on carb #2. Before, I would remove that line and hook up the sync hoses to the 4 spots where I removed the rubber caps, then proceed to sync the carbs. Am I doing this properly? Should the vacuum hose remain in place? Should sync hose be placed on the brass pole I mentioned instead of on the rubber boot like the rest?

If someone has pictures, feel free to attach them. Thanks!

    It's really simple.

Leave the vacuum advance hose in place. Remove the hose that opens the gas supply (octy or petcock).

Remove the three rubber caps on #1, #3, and #4.

Attach the sync tool to the four exposed brass fittings.

Now that confused me more...hose that opens gas supply?

My fuel petcocks (left and tight) each have 2 nipples. One nipple (on each petcock) goes to the carb gas t’s, and the other line joins the nipples together

Civil - your fuel system has been modified. Attach the four sync tool hoses to the four vacuum nipples in a row on top of the intake boots. The fifth nipple, the one that comes off of the body of carb #2, stays connected to the vacuum advance.
