  • 2,000 mile Shinko 712

Seems like this rear tire wore down pretty quick, anybody have this experience?

Shinko's are cheap..the most I have gotten out of a rear 712 was 4000 miles...but like I said they're cheap..ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances...Personally I will never buy another Shinko for anything..but some people love 'em...YMMV

Ok, been kinda heavy on the throttle lately too since I took the fairings off, may have contributed some. It’s like a different bike without all that armor, much more fun

        Tire Type

There are 2 types of tire ratings - V & H. H will get many more miles than a V. 2000 miles sounds like the V rated tire.

Shinkos are OK on the front, that's what I run on front, but on the rear you just about always have to change them every oil change.

Okay, I’m a sucker for punishment, just ordered a Shinko 230 touring, I don’t know why I do things sometimes, just for curiosity I suppose. At least I’ll get to keep an eye on those final drive splines in a regular basis

They have a soft grippy compound that doesn't wear well but sticks pretty good. I've tried others on front but I keep coming back to the 712 because I like the way it handles.

On the rear I feel the same way about the Dunlop Elite3. Harder compound that wears well (I get 8 - 12K from one) and grips well in the rear.

I just put Michelin Pilot Activs on the Yammy, we'll see how they perform. But, I just got 10k on a Shinko Raven 009 on my Triumph. Front is still 50%.

Well, you gotta have horsepower to wear out a rear.

Na! It's the torque that burns the tires off! Oh, wait, a brit bike, it lacks BOTH.(not really, just sounds good)
I did use the shinko's on my Connie, and got about 7K out of them. The handling went south after about 4K though...

Close to what my Conni 1400 has! Probably handles better, though.
