Look at the pipe too, may have a crack in it near the bolt.

The threads are stripped. I'm having a bad day. I feel like I destroyed the motor.

You can buy a tool to insert the thread. As it's an oil line, you will need to be sure all chips come out before installing the thread insert.
Take the banjo bolt down to a good parts store and they should be able to help you.

It went in cross threaded last time. I wish I had listened to Phil and loosened the top bolt It was hard to start. I think that is why oil was seeping out. I will try CRL Loctite Form-A-Thread 28654 maybe it will work.

Fix it properly or you will be doing it over (IMHO)
Keeping the oil in the engine is essential to it`s continued existence

Yes. It has to be done right. I regret cross threading, but it would become much worse running the motor without oil.

I will get help from a mechanic.

Eric, if I were closer I would be able to help you. Here is how I would go about fixing this. First, I would remove the tank and carbs so there is plenty of room to work. Find out the size and thread pitch of the banjo bolt and get a threaded insert kit such as a Helicoil or Tapsert. Cut off a small piece of rag and jam down the hole to be repaired as to catch any metal shavings created by the thread tap. Go ahead and tap the hole to the correct depth and then take a wet vac and suck out the metal shavings. Pick out the rag and install the insert following the directions with the kit. Use 2 new copper washers on the banjo bolt and install the line. If done properly you should be good to go. Good luck with your repair.

Thank you Phil. I think this repair is beyond me at this time. A local shop is very good. I will ask him tomorrow, and hopefully trailer the bike there in the afternoon.

Thats great news! Did it give the mechanic a hard time, removing the carbs and all?
