  • brake light connection

It's been a while since doing any work on the SG.
    so,
here's a dumb question. How does that brake light connection disconnect from the m/c.
I removed the ring and it's basically not pulling off. Thought I'd ask before I pull any harder and mess it up.

    Front Master Cylinder

On the bottom of the MC under where the switch goes in there is a small hole. Take a mini screwdriver and push it in that hole while pulling out the switch. This will push in the tab holding the switch in.

      Thanks Phil. That was easy.
No recollection of that hole. Perhaps I've never had to do that.

Question 2 has arisen. How the heck does one remove the little dust boot of the m/c to get to the snap ring without ripping it to shreads?

Not much you can do to avoid tearing the aged rubber. May want to try pouring some brake fluid around the part that is stuck and see if that breaks down the corrosion. The M/C will still operate without that boot if it does tear. You may want to buy a M/C rebuild kit with new parts if you find the rest of the piston/snap ring are corroded.

How/where is that boot secured Phil? so as to yank on it correctly. Can't find a picture or diagram anywhere.

IIRC, there is an internal metal band at the base that is forced into the M/C. May try prying at the base. I think every one I tried to remove had ripped, GL.
