  • Pet cock question.....

I have a 81 Special and have just read the tech tip on inline filters. In the pics related to this article, it looks as if only one fuel hose is going to each pet cock. So....what outlet do you hook the fuel hose up to? There are two.

The forward port goes to the tee, bypassing the vacuum shutoff.

Is your vacuum shutoff missing. Some folks delete the safety device. I'll defer to them if you're doing that.

The vacuum system was missing when I got this bike. So I should use the front port with out a vac. unit?

No. Both ports are going to run fuel. You have to cap one of them or acquire a vacuum shutoff and plump it as in the diagram I posted. I'm sure someone will give you a vacuum shutoff (spidervalve or octopus) for free or close to it.

The vacuum shutoff is supposed to shut fuel off in case of accident. The tip over switch kills the ignition and subsequently, the vacuum switch cuts the fuel.

Pick one. One is PRIME. The other is ON. I don't remember which one flows for RESERVE.

Thanks for your input. Guess it doesn't matter. I've looked at some diagrams of how to rout the fuel hoses. Its not rocket science is it......lol, thanks again.

The front is prime, use the rear on/off outlet for the filter.
