          Hey Thierry,

          We can understand the desire to not get too wild with the throttle, especially this being your first bike and still learning about riding/driving one. However, some info for you to think about with regards to how you treat your bike.

          Even though these engines are fairly strong and can "lug" along below 2K rpm, the charging system is weak, and the brushless alternator doesn't reach it's proper charging rpm until at least 2500 rpm. Also, the engine's power band starts to kick in around 3500 rpm, and so for better quicker more responsive throttle response as well as generating enough rpm to keep the battery charged, it would be good to keep the rpms AT LEAST 2500 if not 3000 for steady speed cruising.

          Also these ARE relatively high performance engines(for their time period) and were over engineered for long running time use...folks cruise across country running it at 7K rpm for hours without any problems, so don't be afraid of hurting the bike/engine by running the throttle up to 6500-7500 rpm before shifting gears....really helpful when merging onto a busy highway! The drivetrain was also designed to resist raising the front wheel off the ground, so you don't have to worry about doing an accidental WHEELIE when getting on the throttle hard. These bikes CAN wheelie, but takes some effort and timing technique to do it.

            Hi Thierry,
            Nothing wrong with treating your bike with the respect due a grandpa however when it comes to shifting gears the transmission likes a good solid shift. Positive movement of the shift lever.

                Sorry it took so long, I started a back porch/deck repair and had no idea I was going to need to fix tools I did not know needed repair ?




                I was not concerned with matching the dogs between gears, so different measurements on different gears dogs.

                Any photos you want to see ?
