  • Wanna see what a float pin isn't supposed to look like?

I went out to load up for fighter practice and smelled gas. So I look under the bike and there is the dreaded puddle. Which means there is a problem and probably gas in my oil. Track it down to carb 3. Of course, now I have to pull the whole bank. Figutre I'll go ahead and do a cleaning while I'm in there. Get the bowl off #3 but the float pin won't come out. hmmm. Work it out carefully and voila!

It appears the prior owner wasn't very good at hitting the hole. It's sitting next to a straight toothpick so you can see just how badly it's bent. At least it's an easy fix. So much for fighter practice today, the carbs are soaking right now. Guess I'll go start scrubbing parts.

    WooHoo!
Man did she need that cleaning. Poor mans rebuild. Good full disassemble and soak. Everything was gunky and tarnished but not real bad. Got her back together and man does she purr! I had to bring the idle down some after she warmed up. I guess it really needed to be done. Now I am gonna have to order carb. kits anyway because the rubber on the float pins didn't look to hot and it still overflows (very slightly) if you leave the petcock on.
Hmmm now where was that other thread about this. I love this place.

      float needle valves

I've got 3 needle valves if that's all you need. They're new for a 82 XJ so you'd have to check the parts compatability.

      PM me if interested.
