Luckily I waited before taking out the spark plugs since I'm lacking a deep socket.. Is the task of resetting cams difficult?

      Whew!

You look like someone that could use a fine manual:-

      XS1100oemManual.pdf 186KB

Resetting the timing isn't difficult, it's just tedious but not as tedious as pulling the head and replacing bent valves.

The valves are small and bumping them with the piston while you turn the crankshaft and try to sort out the timing can bend them. Before you try turning the crankshaft, remove the timing gears and unload the timing chain, then remove the cam bearing caps and lift the cams to make sure all the valves are closed.

And here's a link to the XS1100 Forum pictorial:-

        Oops

I almost forgot the 1980/1981 Supplements from Yamaha, you'll need them too:-

          Thank you 3Phase,
My main concern really is that the chain may be off a link or so. Do you think this job would still be necessary? I changed the cct without securing tension at the top, but has the bike on the center stand, hence my worry. I'm not entirely sure why the crank won't turn completely to the "T" mark either, but I am guessing that could be a sign of a problem. I'm sorry that my knowledge isn't as vast as many others on this page. I just don't wish to ruin the bike or perform a task I don't need to, as I may end up making it worse lol Once again thanks very much man, it's people like you that make this website great!

          Regards, Kasim

I'm pretty certain the timing is off after further investigation. I guess I will have to correct that :/

Unfortunately, Kasim, it's necessary. One link or twenty, it won't fix itself so you have to pull cams, set the timing, then check the valve clearances before you button it back up in case you bent any valves.
