Came across this recipe of 50/50 acetone and merct/dext atf mixture as a fantastic penetrant and cleaner. Will this damage the XS11 engine if used as a cleaner?

I have heard about people putting some acetone in the gas. I get buy the stuff made for fuel system cleaning because I don't trust acetone. That stuff dissolves some plastics. I would hate to have the valve seals and seals in the carbs get adversely affected!

I wouldn't
Acetone will remove the engine paint and damage the starter cover if it is used to clean the outside of the engine.
Some folks have used that 50:50 mixture to loosen sticky piston rings.-Mike

I have an all metal oil can that I keep the 50/50mix in. It DOES work better than my PB-Blaster, or anything else I've tried on rusty things. And living less than a mile from the Pacific, I KNOW about rust....Ray Matteis

I planned on brushing it on just to clean motor as nothing else has worked. Just the front of motor. Maybe a more diluted version say 25/75?

Works great Skids, if you can get the CRC brand red/white can, which we still can here in Colo. Problem is, that particular one has been banned from a large majority of states..... due to EPA regs. Most folks have to settle for the CRC green/white can....bummer, may as well urinate on parts needing cleaning

BTW, would seriously consider changing that 'walt disney' designed cam chain tensioner to an auto cam chain tensioner(ACCT). The Venture V-4 is no.1 choice, but many links here on site as to the 40+ odd ones that work fine also
