    Gotta get them changed over the Winter. Thinking about the Shinkos if I'm going to do any XS Rallies.

    Have Metzeler Lasertecs on there now, and HATE them! Loved the ME's I had on prior to.

    Just looking to see if anyone's opinions have changed for the XS11 Standard? 17 in the rear.

      Hi Brian,
      I have Shinko 712 on the back of mine. I liked it for my level of riding in the twisties of XSSouthEast. Not a long life tire. dbBrian has Shinko Tour230 on for the last few months and is happy but still early to tell what wear will be like.

        That's an issue I had with the 712 also, not much for longevity. And Tourmasters were even worse in that department.

          I don't know if I'm too keen on going expensive again, if they are not going to last any longer than the Shinko's. Does not seem like the Metzeler's lasted very long.

            Go to a 16" rear and you can get Dunlop Elite 3's. They wear and handle great.

              I like the 230 on the front, seems to cup less than the 712. I like the 110/19 better, the 100 looks as narrow as a bicycle tire. I'll use either the 230 or the 712 (130/17) on the rear. Seems like the 230 runs just a little further than the 712, but costs a little more. YMMV

                Mixed results

                I put a pair of the Shinko 712s on my Bagger project.

                The front tire had a wobble, so I sent it back and replaced it with a Bridgestone Spitfire. I imagine the wobble was just a rare quality defect.

                I kept the Shinko on the back and I am quite satisfied with it after 2,000 miles.

                  I noticed this happens a lot. Was looking at tires last night on M-S.com, and might try some Michelin Pilot Activs.

                    Just saw this thread tonight. Yep, as MaximPhil said, I have the 230's and put over 5,000 km on them since June. I measured tread depth when new. Shown in my intro thread "78e new proud owner".

                    Seeing that today was likely the last ride of the season, I'll go out and re-measure the tread depth this weekend and post it for you. Visually there is a barely perceptible flattening on the rear, but we put a lot of straight road miles on before reaching anything twisty around here, and I like to goose the throttle lots.

                    As far as performance, I am quite satisfied with them. Been in al combinations of hot, cold, heavy rain / wet, dry, and never a slip or uncomfortable feel from the tires. For reference, I purchased the bike end of May, rode a bit on the 8 year old tires before putting on the Shinko 230's. The old rear was a Spitfire, and the front was, well, something really crappy with a ridge that made the bike wander. I rode like I was on a hockey rink. Just so you know my comparison. The change to Shinkos was a real treat.

                        CB350F help

                        Ian - for the 350F, hopefully you know about sohc4.com. Awesome site like this one, but on steroids due to the number of bikes produced - very active site.

                        BTW, the 74 stock colour was called Glory Blue Black, with gold pinstripes. A one time only use of that colour for any year and model of all the Hondas.

                        But the red will be awesome!

                        Below is a good parts source I fouind among many you will find on that site, however, stay away from aftermarket brass parts for the carbs. Jetsrus.com have the keihin jets for cheap. I got into my barbs last winter

                          Might be a '73 then. I'd have to look at the title. I have quite a few of them CB's.

                            I am running a set of 230 Tour Masters on my 1980 SG. Fantastic tires for the first thousand miles or so. No perceptible wear.

                            Plain and simple I went with the 230 because it has a higher load rating than the 712. My bike with me on it in full gear and bags is going to be pushing 950-1000 pounds.

                            Exceptions that have been noted by others notwithstanding, the 230 should have a longer tread life. I have done general internet reading and that seems to be the case.

                              My experience has been with any Shinko that 3K is about as long as they go for me on the rear. Fronts maybe 2 or 3 times that.
