I gave up on trying to properly rebuild the Standard fuel taps, not easy to do with the inferior rebuild kits. I use an inline Pingel vacuum fuel valve and when it is time to rebuild it, send it to Pingel and they will do it for $20.2H7 (79) owned since '89

I have rebuilt petcocks that don't leak a drip. I still have the mod done for my own peace of mind. I don't think it's a McGyver mod at all. I think it's an improvement. I equivilate it to a fork brace or Tony's R/R.1979 XS1100F

An improvement maybe.........if one doesn't forget. So, IMO, no comparison to the fork brace or VR. To each his own when it comes to flammable liquid like gas.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

If the rubber valve/gasket/plate inside the fuel tap leaks then the OFF position won't really help. It does make it nice for routine work when you have to pull the tank and want to run the fuel out of the lines before you disconnect them so you don't dribble fuel on anything.-- Scott
