Again, to simplify, lever straight down is ON. Lever straight forward is RESERVE. Lever straight rearward is Prime. Marked on chrome petcock cover as ON, RES,PRI.
Indeed Motoman, keeping it stock is my preferred method. I still can't say for definite which rotating lever goes to which side although I'm fine with where each petcock body and chrome PRI/on/res plate goes.

I gave up on trying to properly rebuild the Standard fuel taps, not easy to do with the inferior rebuild kits. I use an inline Pingel vacuum fuel valve and when it is time to rebuild it, send it to Pingel and they will do it for $20.

I have rebuilt petcocks that don't leak a drip. I still have the mod done for my own peace of mind. I don't think it's a McGyver mod at all. I think it's an improvement. I equivilate it to a fork brace or Tony's R/R.

An improvement maybe.........if one doesn't forget. So, IMO, no comparison to the fork brace or VR. To each his own when it comes to flammable liquid like gas.

I'd already worn down the tit on the right-had tap so Columbo already had one OFF position, I filed the other tap to match it.

If the rubber valve/gasket/plate inside the fuel tap leaks then the OFF position won't really help. It does make it nice for routine work when you have to pull the tank and want to run the fuel out of the lines before you disconnect them so you don't dribble fuel on anything.
