I just ordered a pair of tires for the BMW from them. Michelin Pilot road 4 GT's, $574 I'm back to work, and my commute is now 44 miles each way, so I need good tires.

I'd riding the second set of Metzeler's on my bike (Lasertecs), and I hate them! My Marathon's before these were awesome, but when I hit tar snakes with these (especially on on/exit ramps), I KNOW I'm going down!

My next set will be Shinkos, or idk if they make the PR4's in our size. I have Shinko Raven's on my Triumph, and they tide great.

I prefer to use mineral oil on my tires, not synthetic.

I tried the synthetic. Made my tires slip.

I like WD-40, quiet and no slip, really cleans too, nice and black.

My Venturer really likes the Conti Go's...........wear is exceptional with it sitting covered in the man-cave for the past 1 1/2 yrs., with aprrox. 1300mi. on them..........guess that'll work for ya' Mike, although it could use a dino oil change (20-50wVavoline).

Nah, no worries. I belong to many forums, and most blast the Metzelers for being junk. It was news to me.

                        Hi Ray,
I ran a set of those on my C14 not long ago. I liked them fine, but was disappointed in their marketing hype. They claim longer life over PR3's.

I got 4000 miles less, and have never been easier on a set.

I've since went back to PR2's, and had to drop to a 180/55ZR17 rear from a 190/55ZR17, since they decided to stop making the size I need.
But, so far, the 180 works fine. I average 12,000 miles per set on PR2's, and saved $100 over the 4GT's.

Michelin also pushes the GT's over the standard 4's for "heavier bikes".
Strangely, a PR4, like the 2's and 3's, has 2 ply sidewalls. The GT has only one, and is made from a different rubber. I called Michelin direct, and asked them to explain why the $10 more expensive GT had less plies, and was yet recommended for heavier bikes over the 2 ply 4. They could not answer either question.

Many on COG have used the standard 4 on a C14 and had just as good results as the GT.

I'll be interested in hearing later how many miles you get from them, and how you like them.

Glad to hear your back to work, too!
                        Take care, Ray. Ride safe!

May try the Shinkos next time as well. Have run the Metzlers exclusively for past 5 years. Tried a V rated Marathon. Worked fine, but not much mileage out of it. I pretty much expected that. Otherwise, no real issues. I have experienced the tar snake factor. Don't know if it would be any different with another brand?

My XJ1100 has Metzeler ME800 Marathon tires. They were on the bike when I bought it. I have no idea as to miles on the tires because the speedo was broken when the bike was transferred to me.

I followed the link and read some of the rants about ME880 tires cupping and wearing early to the cords.

Then you read that the driver inflated the front tire to 32 lbs. If the owner does this to get better grip in the twisties then cupping is going to happen.

Inflate to the max that the tire allows as printed on the tire and it should not cup at low miles.

                            Just my two cents.

I agree. Give 10 different people the same tire and you will get 10 different results/opinions.
