    Carbs

Make sure that the carb diaphragms have no holes/splits/cracks in the rubber. Also make sure that they are tight on the slide, If any of this is present, you will need to replace.

Bummer..........have been down Columbus way many times visiting inlaws and such. Could of been of serious help and brought a stock airbox to donate to your cause as we drove down there two summers ago and didn't fly..

        Figured it out

Hey guys, thanks to everyone and a wide range of things done to the bike, I was able to get all four cylinders firing again.

Still have high Rpms, but that's the least of the problems now.

          K&Ns

Don't throw those K&Ns away, they are some of the good pods. Worth at least $40 used and $100 new. They and UNI pods are the ones that are known to work well.
If you really don't want them let me or any of us make an offer.

The high rpms may be a sync issue. i.e. one or more carbs are delivering a little bit more fuel than the others because those have a higher vacuum. Check the maintenance section of the forum for the budget sync rig with the pvc pipe and aquarium air 4way valve. Minimal $ and works fine.

Although you might find a vacuum leak through the synching process, higher rpms issues will not be resolved with tweeking the throttle plates at low rpms. Synching is not the answer...

I meant at idle, if it's revving high then it may be a sync.
But you're right, a vac leak would cause it too.

                  Carb Sync?

                  Cole,
I may have missed it somewhere in this thread but have you attempted to synchronize these carbs? I have a pretty nice snyc. gauge set here in Peachtree City you are welcome to borrow for a short period of time....It's a little drive for you up from Columbus but not too awful bad. I would be better to do this once the air box is installed but the sync set could show you if you are really badly out of adjustment.
