  • Project Lucy

Things are about to get hot and heavy in the northwoods next week.

Seeing as how I haven't been very active on here, except for being involved with Lost 2016, as of late. I figured I'd give you guys an update.

My SG is currently sitting in a torn down state in the shop/storage/clubhouse for a local motorcycle collective that I am a part of. So, here's what I'm in the process of doing to the old girl...
-Carb cleaning...already put all four through an ultrasonic cleaner for about 12min each.
-Replacement of straight(no octy bs) fuel lines and accompanying filters.
    -Replacement of broken stator...THANKS MACK!
-Full turn signal swap...both right side signals are snapped at the base.
-Fuse box upgrade due to old one melting, but not blowing the fuse. THANKS TC! Seriously though, get at TC if you need a new fuse box...these things are B-E-A-UTIFUL!
-Handlebar swap to black Biltwell Motos. I love the look and the geometry is EXACTLY what I'm looking for.
-Swap out of dog ear mirrors for some fully adjustable end plug style ones.
-New grips...of course. Biltwell Thrusters in Chocolate.
    -New rear tire...Dunlop D404 from Revzilla...ONLY $81!!!
    -New air filter.
-New float bowl gaskets for carbs.
-Possible custom, removable bracket work on cargo rack for hauling BMX bike.
-Might also be getting a TKAT fork brace.

The ultimate goal is to keep her clean and (mostly)stock-looking, but still build her up so I harness those sporty tendencies she has. I'm not trying to put a cafe style seat on anytime soon, if ever, though...because I'm always gonna want to be able to haul my BMX bike around with me.

I'll be back at her again on Monday and will be sure to take a LOT of photos for an update to make up for what I haven't taken!

That should NOT be a "might"! Night and day difference on the Specials with the TKAT brace IMHO.

          Picture update!

Here's a little photo update of what's been happening. Didn't take any photos of the carb breakdown or reassembly. Tried doing a hyperlapse for the reassembly, but the app went weird on me and I only got the action for the first carb and deleted it because I went the slowest on that one haha Anyway. Hope you guys like it. Will be uploading more tomorrow!

              Good morning gentlemen!

Got another batch of photos for your viewing pleasure. Got a few things done yesterday. Time to get more done today! Am picking up the bars here in an hour or so and slapping them girls on today. Finish mounting new fuse block and probably wire up as well. Stator gasket won't be here til tomorrow though so I don't get to hear her again until that gets taken care of. Have several other small things to do in the meantime to keep myself busy though.

All in all, the project is going smoothly and I'm very happy so far.

              Enjoy!

I think I'd find handlebars somewhere else but the rest looks pretty good. Nice fab on Lucy's fuse block bracket too!

That's what I'm doing now. Steer clear of cruisercustomizing.com. Now I'm getting Biltwell Trackers from Lowbrow. Decided the almost 5" rise on the Motos was too much for my liking and would block the gauge pod

Thanks for the compliment on the fuse block. It took three tries to get the bolt holes just right because I didn't want to pull the whole plate off the bike(which I definitely should have done)

It's fun building parts, isn't it. Not all the time but when it works it feels good.

I'll keep in mind what happened with cruisers' too, thanks!

It's always fun to take on a new kind of project. I haven't done 90% of any of this before, but have a very mechanical background and mindset so this makes for a really fun learning experience. I mean, I'm a designer/builder by nature and by trade so, while it does come somewhat naturally, it's still a good challenge.

Anybody have a line on part numbers for the two seals and right side bearing for the rear wheel?

Already scoured everything I could using those numbers. Got both bearings figured out, but I have no f'in clue how to find those seals. Neither of those part numbers are listed anywhere
