The letters and numbers suggest a VDO 476 temperature sender.

The previous owner lost or misplaced the oil plug and this fit the hole?Bikes that I have owned and enjoyed...

Maybe a P.O. had a temperature gauge. The oil drain is one of the spots you can use for the sender without adapters or drilling holes.
