Yet another question on choosing right shims - re. valve adjustment
I've ordered some shims online on Sunday night (eBay free shipping this time)
Are they made in Japan, or CHINA! Look at the color of the new and old shims. If the new shims are on the grey side, BE CAREFUL! I put two "new" cheap shims in one bike I was working on, and they BOTH cracked in half within an hour of running. I now buy or trade locally and just use known brands, Yamaha or Kawasaki.

Thank you for the warning. The first batch of shims I've got from the store Jets R Us. I assume these shims are OK but I have not run my engine/bike yet. Other place on eBay is performanceintl that has 99.9% positive feedback and feedback score is 16508. I should get my new shims at the end of this week and I will take a picture of them and post it here.

Here's a pic of shims that I got from eBay. They are going to be installed in next few minutes. The shim on the left (280) is the old one that I pulled from my bike. Do they look kinda on a grey side?

Put them in properly, but watch them! They DO look like the ones I had problems with, but it's been over a year ago, so I can't say for sure. Do check them with a micrometer if you have one, just to verify the thickness.

Shims are in. I didn't have the micrometer but I used my caliper and seems to be the specified size. I have re-measured my clearances like 3 times and I am just going to leave it as is for now:
cyls. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ]
EXST: .009 .010 .008 .009
shim: 275 275 275 275
----------------------------
INTK: .007 .008 .007 .008
shim: 250 250 265 265
Shims on hand: 290, 290, 285, 280, 270, 245
However, I might change my E3 from 275 to 270 to open it up more. As for intake I will leave it as is for now though mine is 1980 SG and I am sick and tired of ordering shims and waiting for them to be delivered. I hope to start the engine this week and I don't mind it being noisy. Next is carbs syncing
