Bumping an old thread. So update finally got the rebuilt head and big bore kit installed, along with the new vm36 carb kit from Murray's carbs. Got the bike all back together and fired up but something felt off, at first I thought it was the jetting but its much worse that that. Cylinder #2 is down compression. I either messed up one of the rings, or bent a valve setting up the valve lash -_-. So that's where I'm currently at with this build. Ordered up a new OTC leak down tester that gets here Saturday. Hopefully that will help me diagnose what's going on in that cylinder. The other 3 cylinders are very healthy at 130+ Psi even at my 5,948ft of elevation. Which means it should probably be a 150+ psi motor at sea level. Hopefully its not the rings, since I would much rather just get two valves grounded down, than having to buy an entire other big bore kit, just to steal the rings off it. Wish me luck!

      We're pulling for you!

My experience with a bent exhaust valve resulted in 0 psi compression. Hope your wish can still come true @ 60 psi. I think the fix for a bent valve would be to replace the valve. I wouldn't think grinding can solve it? Still a better result than buying another big bore kit.

I would replace the valve, and have the new replacement valve re grounded/serviced is what I meant. I didn't spend all that money on getting the head refurbished/new seats and valve job to put two old valves in lol.

Have you rechecked the clearances? When you installed the cams did you have the crankshaft at TDC and the cam timing marks fairly close? If not you may have bent a valve installing the cams .Doc did that when he put the BB kit in his SG.

Update I totally bent intake #2 valve lol. Got that fixed and the motor all back together.

So I got my xs1100 to idle but cylinder #2 and #3 are running considerably colder than #1 and #4.

            With my laser thermometer I'm getting readings of 400 degrees+ on cylinder 1 & 4 and low 100's on 2 and 3.

            So something's not right.

Just tested my coils both tested perfect on the primary side 1.5-1.6k on the secondary side I got these readings measuring from the spark plug side.

            32k cylinder #1 & #4

            24.5k Cylinder #2 & #3

Also measured resistance at the 4 prong cable that goes into the tci while moving the wires on the vacuum advance. 0.77k ohms and solid nothing changed when moving the wires by the ignition advance.

Do these coils look ok to you guys? Any ideas? Carbs are synced/balanced as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Update did some more work on the carbs. She idles now and I took her for a run around the block. Closed throttle to 1/4 throttle is super choppy then she cleans up in the midrange. Wot is also choppy. At least she runs though gotta get more time into the carbs. She's alive again! Thanks xs members for all of your help and Insight!
