An alternate method is to install pistons in cylinders and then all you do is is slide the wrist pins in and put the one remaining keeper on. It is easier than fighting a tight set of rinds in and you can be sure you do not break a ring. The one thing I definitely suggest is to replace the crank seals if there is any leakage. There are seals you can get to put in that do not have the lip and you drive them in.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

The bike leaked no oil at all. No visible oil from the outside. I assume the seals are good then.

I found the kit being RESOLD/Retailed by SpeedMotoco for $250.00, probably S&H extra!? They are the same CAST type, not forged.

              http://www.speedmotoco.com/product-p/bbk016.htm

I also found this listing on the UK site with statement, explanation that the item was no longer available...which makes me think that they sold OUT of their production....and if so, I would think they would realize that they will SELL, and will probably put them back into production!?!?

Greg, I didn't actually click on your link until after I submitted this one! Yours says the same thing, but I also noticed that they sold 35 of these kits, so again I would think that they will probably make more, just don't know how soon??

TC When I got the kit I have it came from Japan, the guy said it was old warehouse inventory. The pistons had Yamaha tuning forks molded into them I doubt a remanufactured parts would come that way.

Alright guys finally got the motor ripped down. Head and jugs are off as well as the pistons.

Any tips on how to clean the base gasket surface?

Would taking out the studs make cleaning that surface easier?

To pull the studs out just do the double nut method and back them out? Thanks.

I'd be very weary pulling those studs out. I'm at the same point as you. I bought some Permatex gasket remover from Advance Auto, and have a gasket scraper from Sears. However, I plan on using a metal putty knife and window scraper, as the gasket scraper was knicking the surface.

My studs are pretty ugly, so I plan on sanding those down, so the jugs and head go back on smoothly.

I was thinking along the same lines as you. Also thinking of using a 3M Bristle Disc. Any ideas on how to cover the holes so all the junk doesn't fall into the holes/crankcase? I was thinking of just stuffing them with clean shop rags.

Yes, I'll lay some painters tape across the holes.

Also I was thinking of flushing the crackcase, to get whatever little pieces of dirt and what not that fell in out. Any suggestions on what fluid to do it with? maybe a gallon of cheap oil?

I would use diesel fuel, wouldn't hurt anything in there.

Will do diesel fuel sounds like the plan. So as far as engine gasket sets go, there is a couple of sets on ebay. Is there a specific brand that you guys recommend? Id like to purchase one of the kits that's the best quality thanks!
