The FIRST pic shows the diameter to be 18mm........the second pic shows the thread pitch to be 1.5.

If you can't understand that then you better put down the tools and back away slowly with your hands where we can all see them.

With these old eyes...I wasn't sure if it was 1.5 or 7.5...Still wasn't 100% sure that was the way they would have them at the store...18mm x 1.5...???
...I will see the first thing in morning...Hopefully...I won't be backing away
from the tools...I need to do a compression test first...See if I wasted $300 or
        not...???? Later

According to Greg's measurements, it is 18MM-1.5 thread pitch. Length appears to be 20mm.

Thanks, awesome, photos as well as specs!!! FOLKS, I sent Greg a PM reply just now.

I placed a couple of SMILEYS at the end of my previous post trying to show that I was just making a tongue in cheek type of jest about him replying to the requester on www.xs11.org but then "teasing" us here. I hit a nerve and didn't mean too, thought the hatchet about the "OTHER" site had been buried years ago?

I thought we had a LINK in the LINKs forum telling folks about dot.org, but there wasn't one. There was a few threads in the Member's Lounge about it. I just now created a new post/thread about XS11.org with a link and such.

Okay, hopefully this will show that we don't dislike XS11.org, it's members, mods, admin, etc., and that we recommend it as another great source for info and support for your bike. They also allow more open/free discussions on a variety of off topics, like politics, religion, guns, etc. Our site just asks that folks not post about the aforementioned hot button topics to try to keep the atmosphere here in a positive, polite, courteous way, as required by the OWNER of the site. We tried to allow those type of discussions in a special Hot Button forum, but folk's emotions, opinions, got the better of them, and feelings and insults were flung and spread to the other tech forums as well, it was a failure, and was removed. And thus, XS11.org was created as an outlet and alternative to the restriction of topics here. YMMV.
Hey TC, I apologized in a PM where I had originally asked you about it but, since you made it public I'll apologize here too.

I misunderstood the post. Certainly not the first time and most definitely won't be the last time that will happen. I'm sorry if I misunderstood.

I politely thank you for the rundown on .org. A glowing review. Unfortunately it has just become a storage area for info and links to parts since very few ever post over there. That would probably make it even more positive, polite and courteous.

Did you find the original type or a oil drain plug from a parts house? I was in Advance Auto Parts today and just out of curiosity I looked to see if they had one.

                They did.

I know Advance is one of the only Auto Parts store that sells motorcycle stuff...however, the ones in my area (East Coast) must be fading bike
parts out...a number of years back...I bought a lot of stuff for a number of
                  different Virago's...both 1st & 2nd gens...I tried them this morning and no
such luck...By any chance did you ask them what they wanted for one...I
ended up going to a salvage yard that is some miles from me...I have been
buying from them for years and get great prices...It cost me $40.00 + gas...
He put my carbs in their ultrasonic carb cleaning tank...went over them...I
got a complete exhaust system , a kick starter , my oil gallery plugs...all for
$40.00 not to mention a bunch of answers to some question I have...I'm one
happy camper...He told me...unless the PO ran it without oil...It should have
good compression...these engines are near bulletproof...Love it...hehehe Lol
...I think he told me to use a "T"between both peacocks and a "Y" to feed
both carbs...than long hoses line for venting the carbs on the other two outlets...cap off the other line on the petcocks...cap off each port on each manifold / carb boots...Does this sound correct...???
I would like to ask if anyone has a part # for header gaskets for a 79 XS 1100 Special that are sold for cars and will fit our bikes...Also, I'm in dire
need of a air filter for a stock air box (mine is empty) or cheap (but usable) air filter pods...Hopefully also sold in a auto parts store...I know...I'm asking
for a lot...but can't hurt to ask...might get lucky...I used Harley header gaskets on a Vulcan 1500 I had...I see some cheap air filter pods on ebay...
they looked like first class junk...don't want to be replacing them in a week
or two...I hope everybody has been safe today and had a good day...if not...
I hope tomorrow is a whole lot better for one & all...Later

as far as head gaskets go I've used this brand with good results. I so not know of any car gasket that works with the XS.

The way he described running the fuel lines would work great.

                      I think the replacement oil plug was like $2.99. It was 18mm x 1.25 x 19mm

                      Exactly the size.

I posted pic for the best fuel line setup, in my opinion.

                      Exhaust gaskets......

Your local Yammy dealer will have them too. Nothing special.

Be careful of cheap pods, they can cause carb issues if they cover the air jets on the airbox side of the carbs.

These are the pods you need if you go that way......

Nothing replaces the gaskets like what's meant for it, but single gauge copper wire, and rope caulk works great as a temp fix. I'd just wait though. I absolutely HATE removing the exhaust system on that bike. I have a Suzuki GS I never finished putting together, as I could not get the exhaust system back on.

My eye sight is not what it used to be. I should have known better, finding a head gasket from a car to fit the bike just seemed off. I do know what you mean about not wanting to wait. Hope you can find what you need.
