The guy selling it said it was an 86. I didn't think so. Any parts compatibly with my 79 sf? Or anyone have interest in it near Cleveland? Just like it is in pic, no seat or side covers.

The XJ (rear disc brake is another indicator) was sold in the US only in '82 and in other markets (Canada and Mexico) through '84.
Some parts are compatible, same basic transmission and drive line, but the XJ is a different animal than the earlier 1100s and there are changes to carbs, heads, exhaust, tubeless 16" rear tire where your '79 has ( I think) 17" rear tire, wiring, charging, and a bunch of other stuff. Brake rotors are interchangeable. XJ seat does not fit any other 1100 so is sometimes hard to find, same with side covers. What is the guy asking for it?Jerry Fields

I just hate to see a pretty complete bike scrapped for parts, but that is another subject entirely!Jerry Fields

One thing that folks haven't commented on is the XJ's front forks/sliders.
Your Special has the wonky swivel calipers, and so it's near impossible to upgrade to newer dual piston calipers and such unless you have a mini-machine shop. See this thread if you're curious what it takes on a special.

The XJ's sliders have better fittings like the Standards which are easier to MOD to modern calipers! But I can't remember if the XJ's tubes are wider/thicker than the XS. IF they aren't you could swap out the forks into your TT's. IF they are larger, then you would need to swap the whole front end. JAT!.

The '82 XJ11 has a linked braking system. Pushing the rear brake pedal activates both the rear caliper and the front left caliper.Marco

Other than the missing seat/sidecovers, that's a remarkably complete XJ and in better shape than many start with. I'd be really hesitant to part that one out....Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
