I'm sure we would need to thread in an adapter to account for the height or perhaps they make a different one which could be threaded straight in. Either way, I be getting these on my cages.
Anyone tried these?

I was intrigued by it, until I thought of the knocking my engine made when that valves faips. I like it, but I need more piece of mind.1979 XS1100F

Like you say not sure you can just thread it in to the XS drain hole hidden up in the 1/2 tunnel. They have certainly solved the usual problem by having the correct male thread. Even in a car application I would be concerned about accidental opening. ie rock flies up and hits the handle at just the correct angle to open the valve. it is only a 1/4 turn to full open after all.

Hey Mack,
Looked at their site a little closer. Also verified our plug size, 14mm x 1.5 pitch.
Here's the one they have in that size! it's their Model F106. This one doesn't have a fitting for a hose, and so the oil would be pouring out against the filter cup....unless you took it off first...which wouldn't matter since the oil stays in the cup no matter if you drain the oil pan first or not...so you still get to experience the mess of dripping oil from the cup!?
These non-nipple valves can simply allow you to drain the oil. No hoses can be used, but their sizes are at minimum, and, compared to the regular drain plugs, they would only be added half inches in length from your oil pans.
This one has a short nippled to attach a drain hose:
These valves have 5 mm (0.2") short hose nipples and are recommended for vehicles with low ground clearance. Our plastic sockets (SH-10 or SL-10) are necessary to securely connect a hose to the nipple.
From the description, the lever is held in a locking recess so it can't easily get knocked OPEN, you have to pull/lift the lever up out of the recess before you can turn it open. But they also offer an optional LOCKING CLIP to position onto/above the lever to further keep it from being accidentally unlocked!
I like the idea. Another option would be to tap and thread it into the SIDE of the oil pan away from the filter cup.
Brant, they've been made since 1976, and here's a blurb from the website about whose installed them commercially!

I installed one on a boat engine I use to have. It sure made oil changing much easier and cleaner. I had the one with the nipple and would attach a hose and run it through the bilge drain to a pan. No more spilled oil in the boat. Can't say if it will work that well on a XS.Slow down and enjoy life. If you are in that much of a hurry, you should have left eariler.

Cages
One of my cages is a dodge 4x4. I'm going to put one on it. Lots of room to work under it but I've always hated the sleeve full of oil thing.mack

Hey Schming,
They offer a 1" long adapter/extension for pans with recessed plugs!
Only $6.50 extra.
T.C.
I meant to post an image of the valve with the drain nipple.
Hey Greg, we know you're a little "slow", but we'll wait for you!
With the valve, you can get the oil warmed up before draining to help it flow faster without having to get the hot oil on you.T. C. Gresham

After reading
The information on their web site I ordered one for my Toyota.
No fuss, no muss and changes should take less time now because there's no pre and post cleanup prep required and I can drain the oil straight into gallon milk jugs instead of the oil pan.
I liked the idea immediately when I saw it because I'm all about lazy which means doing it the smart easy way.79 SF & 80 LG MNS
