  • Bike shuts off while ridding oil light and head lights stay on engine just dies

Hi Guy's I've been dealing with this problem for a couple of weeks and I can't seem to figure out who the culprit is.

I will be driving along or sometimes i'll be stopped and the bike will just shut off. the lights will stay on but if I try to hit the starter nothing happens. The only way I can get it to start is by touching and there by connecting the starter solenoid bolts with a piece of wire or a screw driver the solenoid sparks a bit then the starter begins to turn over. I take the conductor away and the bike will fire right back up with the starter button. Usually though once it happens it happens again and again and again with the time shortening between each occurrence.

it' happens totally randomly sometimes it's when I first start ridding other times like tonight it happened as we were coming back from a thirty minute ride. before a couple of weeks ago i put almost 900 miles on the bike before it happened again.

has anyone ever seen this before?

Likely got wiring issues.........I could just imagine. Start by removing left side round ignition cover and with two hands for every inch try to pull apart each wire, Stretches like spagettii.........broken wire. Would have to say the white wire is the culprit. Next, you needto take apart EVERY plug-in, clean both ends with electrical cleaner and plug back in, Bettin' it sounds like wiring looks like dropped in spagettii everywhere anyways.

Kill switch on the right handlebar or the ignition fuse not making good contact. Probably the latter, particularly if you still have the glass tube type fuses.

Sound like a short. I had an old sportster that would cut out every time the horn mount broke and shorted on the engine.

You were right it was the fuse connection. even though the glass fuses have been replace the positive connection on the atco box had just enough corrosion to cause an issue cleaned it up and now it works great.

          Thanks Everyone!

Glad you got it figured out.
