The hole in the bottom of the seal housing. It passes through to the crankcase.

Interesting, I don't recall ever seeing that before, on ANYTHING.

I actually didn't pay attention to it. I though it was a leftover in the case design.

Thinking about though it does make sense. The oil being forced in that bearing insert would have to have someplace to go rather than just building pressure between the seal and case.

Have you seen a hole like this cut in the seal housing? I agree the oil should go somewhere but in this case a non-OEM seal runs the risk of blocking this hole. That would cause pressure on the seal.

You should be able to look at it and see if it's blocking it. Have you used the same seal (manufacturer and part #) each time you replaced it?

I've had good luck with the TCM double lipped seals. They don't ride in the same place on the crank the old ones did. Last time I ordered, I got several from this place... www.abxbearings.com Not much of a website and I can't even find them on there any more, but I just directed someone else to them recently and they still had them.. like 4-5 bucks a piece and shipping was $6 even with several ordered. Best bet is to just call them. Ask for Nicole.. she's a sweetheart. 713-957-1700 TCM part # 32x45x7TC and 32x48x8TC Not sure which one you need. I'm thinking the 48mm was the left side but have slept since last time I put one in.

Next installation, put some rtv or something around the outside, I personally would ditch the speedy sleeve, but if you use it, I'd make sure it was coated with something between it and the crank as well. As Brant said.. if the surface of that sleeve isn't polished, it could be just grinding on the seal lips and ruining them.

Lastly... grab ahold of your crank and try to wiggle it front to back, up and down. It will likely have a slight bit of in/out, movement from wear on the saddle bearing, but should be solid otherwise. If you detect some movement, it means very worn crank bearings, the crank is wobbling while running, and more seals will be a waste of time and money. When it wobbles enough, the rotor wipes out your stator on your alternator on the right side and smears your pickup coils away on the left. Fairly tight clearances on both.

They come with a cup that they set in for installation. use approx. same diamater wuuden/plastic mallot on the CUP to drive seal in. If you haven't been using the cup they set in, THAT is why they're leaking. ANY mior distortion(cocked to one side a bit on initial starting instalation or not using the cup provided to keep distortion from hapening.........not using the install cup WILL distort that thin metal enough. Oil has better visibilaty than you, and finds its way out.

Get the double lip seal as TRBig recommended I am sure the same design as I used and just put a smear around the seal. If its a big glob it can seal the port and if you drive the seal hard in, it will completely seal off the drain just make it barley flush. If you have the problem I did with it pushing out use the Indian head gasket shellac.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

There's no movement. I made sure of that when I resembled the crankcase. I just didn't look at the seal race very well before doing it. It has pits in it that will damage a seal faster than the speedee sleeve. So I'm going to try and polish the new one first.

I have two seals on hand I can try first. If the previous sleeve caused the leak than a new polished one should solve it (I hope). Meanwhile, I'll order a couple of seals from this source.
