I rebuilt the gas tank and petcocks for this E, I spent the last couple days with fuel in the tank watching for leaks with them on RES. Once I was satisfied the petcock/tank gaskets were not leaking and no fuel was dripping from the diaphram screws I was draining the tank. I didn't have vacuum hoses hooked up just had gas line on them, when I switched the selector to on I got fuel pouring out of these holes.

Am I correct in assuming that this would be normal and after the vacuum lines are hooked up, I won't see anymore leaks?

With NO vacuum applied you should NOT have any fuel flowing/leaking when in the ON or RES position. Fuel WILL flow in the PRIME position with or without vacuum applied.

      Hey Mack,

I'm pretty sure that those little holes are just vent holes to allow the vac. diaphragm to be able to move back and forth. I think I remember reading something about the Octy with similar design, and that there was a right way and wrong way to put the square/rectangular diaphragm in place for it to work right. I have a standard tank but haven't messed with it or it's petcocks. Hopefully someone else will post about it?

        Ok

i was afraid of that, I'll pull them apart tomorrow and check that out. Worked all day on a leaking #3 carb i want to use on the bike, but it won't stop. Changed the float settings, changed the float, changed the inlet valve and needles three times (all mikuni) still won't hold. I've got a couple spare #3's here that I'll split the rack and replace it. When I have more time I'll look at it closer to see what the issue is. Reminds me of awhile back someone else had this problem and went in circles for days, then I think he just sold the bike. I want to get this e running before the seasons over.
The petcock internals are all new so it won't take long to change them around.

          Petcocks

Well I'm sorry to say that there was nothing wrong with my assembly technique. I pulled them apart and all was good. The issue is that the kit came with defective parts. The small shaft with the o-ring on the end that fits into the petcock body is not long enough to seal the chamber. Thus no matter how much I pushed on it manually, it won't make contact. So, I'm looking at a pingle conversion kit. Never liked the whole plumbing thing anyway. All I want is on/off gravity flow! Does anyone have a number for the correct one for a standard?

I just put a new selector gasket and fuel pump o ring yesterday, pump diaphram can go two ways, theres a tiny vent groove in the plastic that I put to the top side, petcock will drain from the forward line if its 'on' or 'res', or drain from the rear line if at 'prime'. Mine was dripping from both lines while off and priming the left side carbs while parked but changing the gasket fixed that.
