Oil Pan Repair

If you run over a big rock, you may have to do this to your oil pan:



I've seen some unusual repairs before, but this one stands out. Looks like a little tig welding in combination with some JB Weld got this 1981H back on the road again. Sure glad this has not happened to me (yet)!

Cannot bring myself to leave this on the bike. Got a pan from Andreas and am preparing to replace the re-engineered one. His pan included drain plug and pan bolts shipped for $24. I think that is a very good deal:



Oil pan prep included glass bead blasting, a bath in the ultrasonic cleaner, casting flash removal inside and out, and a coat of Cast Aluminum paint. All that work for something you will never see?

If you are like me and have not had an oil pan off before, this is what it looks like inside. Looks like something off of a race engine. Disregard the ugly tennis shoes.

Hmmmmm...... Wonder if that was the same PO of my Duck. Same caliber of repair so I see my PO's finger prints all over that one too. We're in the same area so it's possible..... Couldn't be two guys in our area with that level of repair skill?

This bike is from Minnesota. However, this "technician" and your PO may have attended different shade trees together?? LOL

Found this looking at the underside with a mirror. Good news is that the rest looked great. No dents or other cracks.

I have had several dealings with Andreas. He is fair, does what he says he will do, and is on time. All good deals and good parts.
