    If you watch 'em on the road they even move like genuine squid: jet up to speed, then coast a bit and slow down; jerk to one side and jet up to speed, then coast a bit then slow down.

            Nah, nuttin' against the Navy!

            It's an old, old term from the rec.motorcycles newsgroup. Along with a designated KotL (Keeper of the List) there was a designated KotS (Keeper of the SQUID) which was deemed appropriate at the time because 'kots' means 'vomit' in Dutch.

            Ah, the FAQ is still up and it's current. It's on a web site instead of a news server but what can you do? No one reads the USENET any more:-

                        WOW that's a long test!! I got a 3.79 squid factor. So what the heck does DoD and DoD nominal mean??
