Just out of curiousity
I opened the one on my special and I'm thinking I might be the first person to see those tools since they were put in there. No marks on the tool faces and everything was corrosion free.79 SF & 80 LG MNS

Mystery Tool?
XS Folks,
I purchased a nearly perfect OEM tool kit from one of the members here. It contains everything shown in the example Marty provided less one screwdriver bit and the pliers. Unfortunately, it contains a "Mystery Tool". NEITHER the photo posted by Marty nor the photo posted by MadMax-Im show this tool. The tool is shown in the preface pages of the Cylmer Manual but I can not find its use shown anywhere in the manual.
It looks like you could use it as a tire iron? I read somewhere the tool kit contained a spanner wrench or a wrench for adjusting the rear shock springs. If it works on those I can't figure out how? It will not work on the steering stem for that spanner nut either.
I don't have an XS1100 owners manual but I do have one for the XJ1100 (downloaded) but I can't find this tool mentioned in there either.
Ok guys... what's this thing used for?

Respectfully,
KURT
P.S. Now that I have an OEM tool kit I will be completely re-thinking my onboard kit. It will include the fuses, a little tape, PLUG(S), vac caps, and a couple other items if they will fit WITH the OEM kit.Kurt Boehringer

Tool
IIRC, this tool is used along with a cable that assists in removing the rear wheel. There are hooks for this tool to attach to in the rear wheel area. Just about have to view the procedure in the service/operator manual to get a better understanding. If you do not have the cable (and they are hard to find), this mystery tool in your bag becomes the useless mystery tool.XS Folks,
