I purchased a box on ebay just in case. I have read on here what a true pain it is to tune. I hope i can figure out how to innstall to bike. it did not come with brackets at all
Pods flow a crap ton more air regardless of exhaust system so larger jets are a must. Don't believe it could be rich with pods and stock jetting.
See what you have in there and report back if you can, then order jets from that point.
I have a ZRX1200 with pods and adapted ZZR1200 carbs onto the engine. Yeah, took many, many times of trial and error removing/installing carbs, but the end result was worth it.
With respect to the XS, some guys have pods and no problems and others have problems. From my experience in general if you are willing to take the time, follow advice in past threads from XS'ers who have had success with pods, it can be done and have a good result.
Welp! I gave up. i couldnt get the bike to run right, rebuilt everything, bought all the tools, synchronizer and just couldnt figure it out. I took it to a guy who was reccomended by a lot of guys here in tucson. Sparks cycle.
he had the bike ready in about 3 days. Only thing is that the box was installed with K&N filter. He didnt even want to mess with the pods.
i should done this from the beginning, woulda saved me money and headache.
Bike now runs flawlessly, i changed the oil and filter and now have a leak.
Be certain you get the correct ones when you order and always get original Mikuni.
+1 for original Mikunis.........no aftermarket allowed, unless you REALLY enjoy chasing your tail. The stock size main jets will be fine...........you got to high a float levels is MORE likely the issue.

Ive noticed a weird stumble after about 6k rpm. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesnt. If the bike has been ridden more then 20 minutes it never does it. I guess the bike has to be really really warm to run smooth.
Nrope.........every thing has to be set spot-on, which includes fuel levels while idling, secondary ignition, on and on. Careful playing with jetting if ALL the previous mentioned has NOT been throughly and meticulously checked. Float levels will get fuel levels close, but not spot-on unless individual fuel levels aren;t checked. You don't want one or more cyls. 'carrying' the other cyls. from not being spot-on and the same for ALL four cyls.. You get all four cyls. doing the exact same 'work', there's not another inline four that'll match the XS11's smoothness. Thought my ST1100 was bought as smooth as it gets till I got the Venturer 1100 carbs and electrical spot-on. Ive ridden Wings. four cyl. Bemmers and alot inbetweens. Still no match for a perfectly tuned XS1100 at 70+ cruissin' speeds.

Do you guys know where i can buy different sized jets online? I have a 79 special and will be cleaning the carbs soon and wanted to dial it in. Its running rich. Cant seem to find individual jets for sale online anywhere for xs 1100 carbs.
Won't be runnin' rich iy ya' CAREFULLY clean carbs and CAREFULLY set floats to factory specs. Close ain't good enough my friend.

Tuning these bikes is actually easy. Getting carbs setup correctly and properly cleaned before the sync is the not easy part. There are critical settings for the carbs and, as Motoman says, "close is not good enough". Getting the carbs exactly right is rarely accomplished on your first try. Life is good when they are correct.
The leak you mention can cause other problems. If left unchecked, you can end up with a crankcase full of gas. I see that you have an SF which should have petcocks that can be turned off. They should be put in that position when not running - especially with a fuel leak.
Determine where your leak is and make that repair BEFORE you ride it. Keep a close check for fuel in the oil until she is purring properly.
Your fuel mileage will verify your tune up. Look for 35-42 at best (stock jetting). Less than 30 indicates more tuning desired.

With my exhaust I've gone up 1 size pilots and 2 sizes mains and I'm pretty much right where I need to be I think.
Finally got rid of that top end lean spark knock at WOT in 5th gear. Plugs are tan with black edges. It doesn't get better than that.
Remember to, that is for close to sea-level folks. WAy to rich for us at 5,000ft. or above..
