The front wheel hast to be turned to the sop to get the lock to engage. I have to wiggle my forks a bit to get it to lock.

There are 2 positions for the key when you do lock it. 1 click is lock only, 2 clicks is lock with park lights. Don't go 2 clicks and leave it parked to go to the lake for the weekend. Don't ask me how I know that.

Start with the fork oil, change for new. I think you have air caps on the '79, but I'm not sure. If so, put about 12 to 15psi. A TKat fork brace is a MUST, tkat.com IIRC is the site. Rear shocks, there is a Honda air version that seems to work well. A search on "rear shocks" should bring up the threads.
DO NOT forget the steering head bearings! Inspect and re-grease or replace as needed. I'm also 230, but I ride the 1980 Special so I know it's a bit different.

Where are you guys buying head bearing and fork seals? im going to buy all the parts first and make sure i have them before replacing everything.

Can the rears be rebuilt or beefed up?

hows your bike after working on suspension? since we are both 230 and all

Custom springs will tighten it up. I got mine at Traxxion Dynamics. I'm over 230 lbs and mine is very nicely transformed. I added Race-Tech emulators as well.
