    Ring Gap - 81 XS11

    Well I checked my new rings in the cylinders for gap and all came in at less than .016". except for one set which came in a .022" (both 1st and 2nd). Should I be concerned? The repair book shows .008"-.016" with a max wear limit of .039". So the rings are well within the wear limit but outside the factory range.

    The gap does travel to other cylinders so it is the rings that are out of tolerance.

    I don't want to wait to replace a set of rings if these will do.

    If two rings on that cylinder measure a high gap I might swap one with the next cylinder to "spread the load" in case it becomes an issue.

      That's a good idea. It would reduce the risk of blow-by.

        Thanks for the help. I moved the rings around to place the wider gaps with the narrow ones.
