Once again, sorry about that.
I think it was that clip that got my hazy head a bit mixed up.
Was honestly just trying to warn him about making a simple error that ends up being pretty exxy.
Trust me, I made that one myself back in '83 when changing a camchain in my original E. No forums around back then, and a simple misreading of the manual resulted in 4 bent exhaust valves in my pride and joy.

The pointeris on the T mark. The cam chain is one tooth out. It's easily done. And easily rectified. As has been said, do not turn the engine over with things as they are nowXS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Micron fork brace. Progressive front springs. Geezer regulator/rectifier. Stainless 4 into 2 exhaust. Auto CCT (Venturer 1300) SOLD. New project now on the go. 1980 European model.Comment

Yes, it can be used to hold the cam and stop it turning when the caps are torqued down. It can be easier to remove the sprockets from the cams, line the cams up with the dots and then reattach the sprockets themselves, having made sure that the cam chain is fully tight at the front.XS1100F 1980 European model.
