      The STANDARD petcocks do not operate on vacuum??? I know the Specials do not . . .

          The octy is vacuum controlled as well. Just for the record.

          The Special really got the best set-up. It has positive shut-off petcocks and a vacuum safety valve. IMHO, they should have all been done that way.

                trick for leaking gas.

                remove the air box lower cover. Check carb intake bells for wet gas, determine which carb is leaking. Remove the drain bolt at the base of the float bowl for that carb. Using a small amount of compressed air blow In that float bowl hole. ( This will usually clear any debris and help stop the leak.
