  • new carb intake boots grrrrrr

Well all this is why I need help and suck at working on my bike.

I went step by step and took my carbs off and put new intake boots on today.
all in all it wasn't to bad hardest part ways getting the carbs to seat in the boots but got it done. I drained my tank while it was off, cleaned out my filters on the shut offs.

Put it all back together and went to put gas in the tank,............. gas was running out of my air box wtf?

      Hey Jeff,

Yep, when you drain the carbs, the floats can drop so far that the float needle can get cocked/stuck and prevent it from moving/sliding back up into the valve seat as the bowl fills with fuel and the float experiences buoyancy pressure. A few taps with a dead blow plastic hammer or such on the sides of the carb assembly can often help to loosen/wiggle the floats/needles and allow them to move freely and then perform their proper function of stopping the fuel flow when the floats rise to the proper level.

        Better

Seems to run better, when I took off the old carb boots the #3 one had a lot of what looked like carbon blow out around it and the nuts took no effort to take off.

Well changed the oil and filter did the cam change adjustment, and newer intake boots and it does sound different.

40-50 miles and I let you know for sure...

Thank you all for all your help.

          drop tangs

The floats can stick if the drop tangs aren't engaged properly. If this was the case then the tapping with the end of a screw driver may not do the trick.

Not a bright idea. That will end up going through the engine and possibly causing fatal damage.

Bite the bullet and get some new boots. $65 is cheaper than a new engine.

Greg, He HAS new boots! The liquid silicone is a spray like oil. I use it here for the same thing. Works well, though on 35 year old rubber, heating it up and then the silicone works better.
