  • stator check

Was reasembling my generator today but before I did that I decided to check the field coil and stator. The manual calls for .4 oms between the whites. I was getting .8 at white to white. If I go, any white to yellow I got the .4 called for. Seems like a poorly worded illustration. So I checked my running bikes and they were the same. Is this correct or is my voltmeter crap?

Hopefully by "voltmeter", u mean "DMM", or "Multimeter", correct? I know you know, but I'd hate to see someone see this and think to use a voltmeter to measure resistance. But, I always just measure white to white, then the field coil wires. Not sure I ever used the yellow wire.

Does your meter 'zero out' when the leads are touched together? If it doesn't, subtract whatever it shows from your reading across the coils. And keep in mind that even a quality hand-held meter will only resolve down to about .1 ohm, not all do that well.

A slightly high resistance will reduce output some but not enough to matter on a stock bike.
