  • Strange electric thing poped up

    HI all.
Strange thing is happening hope you can help. I drive the bike every day and always starts fine. Jumped on today and battery was deadish, rolled over and then stopped, I cleaned up all the connectors positive and negative. Put a charge on battery, started it up a couple times, then just now 1-2 hours latter, got on and nothing again.

Please give me some ideas and what to do pleassssseeeee

Sounds like it's telling you time to clean some connections and contacts.
IIRC, 80 and later right bar controls grounded thru bars, but I could be off a year. I know ALL 81 models did.
    Corroded START button contacts......
Would also be a good idea at this point to pull right sidecover, unscrew fuse panel mount to access the plug-ins behind it. Unplug and spray Deoxit cleaning contacts on ALL those plug-ins.
Fully charged, load testing that battery will help determine its condition, as it kinda sounds like at this point there's a good chance connections associated with charging system may not be as good as they need to be, since you state it gets started and ridden daily.

            Hi Jeff,
Your charging system is working so on to the next thing. Sometimes even a fairly new battery can go bad. Try charging it then disconnect it from the bike and leave overnight (12 hours) then check voltage again. If it gives the same reading you know the bike and not the battery is the problem area. Or if available a Load Tester will answer the question.

Whoa! I thought bike batteries are supposed to be charged @ 1a? Take it to Auto Zone, etc., and have them load test it.

                  Battery

My bet is on the battery. Charge it up and then take it to your local parts house and have them load test the battery.

Do you have one of those batteries that you need to add distilled water to bring the fluid up to the line? Not acid but distilled water.
