  • Rear Axle tightening

Is there a simple step by step process for tightening up the rear axle?

Stick the axle in with everything in place, torque the axle nut, then the pinch bolt.

I don't have the numbers though.

Is it ok if the hole is partially covered on the brake side? I started to tighten the nut and when I went to put a bar in the hole to torque the nut, the hole was partially covered.

Put the parts on in order. The nut will be on the left side of the bike. I don't know the specified torque, so I won't put it here. It's in the neighborhood of 100 ft lbs. The Clymer book lists the wrong torque. Advance the nut to where you can pin it. Finally, torque the pinch bolt on the right side.

Yes, it is OK if the hole is partially covered. The axle itself will pull everything together. The right side of the swingarm falls where it may and the pinch bolt is tightened.
