  • Frame Measurements

I am trying to build a powder coat oven but I don't have a good idea of the measurements of the xs1100 frame. If someone has a bare frame would you mind measuring it for me? My plan is to build the oven like a horizontal box and load it from one end. So I would need the height, width and length. Thanks

Give me three hours to get off work, and home. I have a '79 standard frame that I'm prepping for a "newer" engine, and can measure that for you. Don't forget, you should have at least 3" all around for airflow and to keep any cold spots down! Powder coat requires a certain temp profile to adhere properly!

      OK, I'm home.
16" wide, 56" long, and 24" tall should just fit. I fudged about an inch or two all around. This is a 1979 STANDARD.
I would try and make the oven 24"X30"X60" at the minimum, so you have airflow and few cold areas. Good luck!

        Hi Ray

Thank you so much for the measurements. I have a 79 standard as well that I rebuilt. I am thinking about getting another one and begining a rebuild again. I fugured a xs1100 has a large frame and if I make an oven that can accomidate a xs1100 frame it should be big enough for other bikes in the future. Thanks again.

No problem. I will NOT powder coat a frame because of the ocean. The salt air causes rust to form in ANY defect or scratch, and it will not show up until large parts of powder coat flakes off. I've been through it ONCE, so no more. I paint my frames, and have to send out of state to get good paint now....

Good point on the salty air. I live in wisconsin so I don't have that problem. What stinks for me is I can only ride a few months out of the year. I would love to live where it's warm so I can ride all year. Thanks for the help.
