I went to put the new rear brake pads in and realized I have no shim clips. The bike didn't have them, but it looks like I need them to hold one of the pads in place. The old pads had a real weird angle in ware. Can someone confirm this for me?

Gene the pair of clips are for the pads to rub on so as not to wear away the soft aluminum of the caliper the big clip adds pressure to align them.
Some brands include the clips with new pads others sell as a separate item.

Brakes will work without the shims. I believe the shim s are to prevent chatter when applying the brakes. I think I still have one of mine

Those shims are optional and can be installed if you have a squeal or squeak. I have none on my SG and it's fine.Greg

Here's what the pad shims are supposed to look like....

As everyone has pointed out, you really don't need them. Replacement shims were available in the factory service replacement pad sets and a few brands of aftermarket pad sets 'back when', but are long discontinued.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
