Rear Brake Pad Shim Clips

I went to put the new rear brake pads in and realized I have no shim clips. The bike didn't have them, but it looks like I need them to hold one of the pads in place. The old pads had a real weird angle in ware. Can someone confirm this for me?

Caliper mounting AND alignment of the Specials REQUIRE the angle-cut pads on front. Be sure to follow installation procedures specific to the the Specials.

Hi gene I believe the rears are all the same.

Gene the pair of clips are for the pads to rub on so as not to wear away the soft aluminum of the caliper the big clip adds pressure to align them.
Some brands include the clips with new pads others sell as a separate item.

Hi gene,
Brakes will work without the shims. I believe the shim s are to prevent chatter when applying the brakes. I think I still have one of mine

Those shims are optional and can be installed if you have a squeal or squeak. I have none on my SG and it's fine.

You can also spray some auto anti squeal on the back of the pads.

As everyone has pointed out, you really don't need them. Replacement shims were available in the factory service replacement pad sets and a few brands of aftermarket pad sets 'back when', but are long discontinued.

Do yourself a favor and do away with that little screw that goes thru the pads. It serves no usefull purpose (on rear brakes anyway) and makes future caliper/pad removal easier.

Got a pic of that cause it dont sound right. Rear pads should wear flat right down to metal unless something is way outa wack

One step further today. Finished rebuilding the rear master cylinder, installed new rear pads, rebuilt the rear caliper, and installed a stainless steel braided brake line . Also, bleed the lines. Here it is.
