I am prepping some of my herd for winter storage and was wondering what the consensus was as to it being a better idea to run the bikes out of gas or to put stabil in ?

    Both

is what I do. I put the Stabil in the fuel tank and then close off the petcocks and run the gas out. I also drain the bowls for extended storage periods.

My tanks have been rusty before and now I have them all squeaky clean.

I want them full of gas.

I used to use Stabil, but now I don't feel Stabil is necessary because modern gas has enough preservatives that I don't have problems storing it...even for a year.

I do drain the float bowls.

I use Startron. Not a fan of StaBil anymore.

          Hi Joe,
You know the story what happened to the Bentley's carbs when I put it on 'ignore' acouple yrs. ago. Didn't want the same results with the STeed, so I opted to use Star*Tron enxyme fuel treatment. IMO and many others, it is a better product than even the new Stabil. Can be gotten at any of the local bike shops. I keep it in both bikes throughout the winter as I do ride them occassionally.

As for perservatives in the fuel...... that bout has to be the best urban myth I've heard in some time.

Move someplace warmer so it doesn't sit for extended periods of time.

Ba 80...not a bad idea...however once you become established and find a place you like .....Here in Colorado we do have a lot of warm winter days not enough to keep fifteen bikes ready at all times though !!!!

Why in the world do you have 15 bikes??

There are dealerships that don't have that many.

Don't like running them dry leaves lots of empty but somewhat sealed area for condensation, better to top them off with non-ethanol mixed with Startron, Sea Foam etc. but mix it per directions more is not better. Every month or so go out and turn the valves to prime to keep the floats floating the needle valves working and the bowls full. If you do have warm days and ride, ride for at least 10 mi. and refill.
Gonna be a pain with all those bikes.
If you have a heated garage, climate control and don't bring snow in with the cars to melt.

I ride year round, but if I had to put it to sleep, I'd drain the tank and spray the inside with fogging oil.

Six to put asleep for a while

Top off the gas, add the correct amount of seafoam. Charge the battery, inflate the tires run for a few minutes to get the mixture to the carbs and then cover them up. All get the same treatment except the Yamaha HS1, it goes in the lower level (basement). Pic to follow
