  • Low end torque

Just bought an 1100 F and it has NO low end grunt. At 3k it starts to wake up and at 3500 it is a rocket. Timeing is right, chain is tight. I am wondering if the carb. diaphrams fail.

1.Checked your timing with a timing light?

2.How are your vacuum hoses hooked up? The vacuum hose from the advance mech. goes to the nipple on carb #2, NOT the intake boot.

    3. The centrifugal advance mechanism is prone to gumming up, I clean and lube mine once a year.

    4. Back to #1 - all of these symptoms, if they are your gremlin, can be diagnosed with a timing light.

      Re: Low end torque

Some exhaust systems will do that to an engine. Also, bad exhaust systems can act that way (and errode the aluminum on the piston crowns).

Just replace trashed Kerker with MAC header system. Never rode it with the Kirker.
        Thanks

Don, you described mine very well. Mine will pull from 2,500 in any gear, but takes a long time to get to 3,500, then it takes NO time to get to 6,000 and up.

I have indy filters and 4-1 exhaust. This combo is supposed to move the torque / HP curve up in the RPM range.

After following Randy's good advice, consider the pilot circuit might be clogged. If the bike sat for any length of time your carbs could be in need of a cleaning. How does it start / idle?

              Low end torque

Marty. I have had the bowls off and everything looks good although it did sit for several years. Much better than most of the old machines I have bought. It has KN filters and a new MAC exhaust and I did not that the main jets are quite large #155.
Have read the excellent info here on the site and plan to completely redo the carbs. I have them well synched and it starts and idles well.

I had a similar problem with my E. In my case it was a bad pilot jet. Bike was running on 3 cylinders until carbs transitioned to main jets around 4200 RPM at which time it began running on all 4 cylinders.

dg, try 140 or 142.5 mikunis. I bet the plugs are black. If not , the floats are wrong. 78E's haven't got grunt below 3000 anyway.
