  • Many Problems

OK, at everyone's advice I took the carbs apart for cleaning. It did not go smoothly.

1: The gas leaking down the side of carb 3 is from a T that had almost no rubber left.

2: The right petcock leaks when switched to ON

3: The carb boots are cracked though and need replacement

4: Running grounds to battery did not stop it from stalling with the headlight on.

5: I broke the tip of a mixture screw off in carb 4.

6: I see no reason for carb 2 to be running as rich as it does.

Well, I'm done ranting. I'm off to order new air mixture screws and pull my carbs to start struggling with this little tip stuck in there. Hopefully I can make it to the Distinguished Gentlemans Ride next Saturday sans headlight.

8: The choke does not stay at 1/2 or full. It just springs back to off. Any tips on what I did wrong putting that back together?

great, so that probably flew out to never be seen again. Where can I buy new mixture screws? Mikesxs.net and bikebandit dont seem to stock them? Seems odd to me.

              the joy of carb work

Been there myself with the misplaced spring and ball bearing...they are available at the Yamaha shop.....believe it or not 11 dollars apiece...I found a local spring distributer 18 cents... mixture screws also at Yamaha shop 12 dollars apiece... sounds like you also need to rebuild the petcocks
Don't be discouraged btw if you decide to take the needles from the slides for cleaning... modified hemostats work well to remove the snap ring BUT BE AWARE THAT THERE IS A SPRING on the needle that will also fly into outer space if you are not careful....Guess how I know?

                    Idel Mixture Screw

I could send a used idle mixture screw if it helps (no charge).

PM me with an address if you need it.

You have that set on C it should by on T then check your alignment marks on the cams. C is where you set it to adjust the original CCT.

Sent a PM about the screw and the choke sets.

Now, onto the electrical problem, I have ~12.5 volts standing, 13.7 at 3000+ rpm. Drawing about
10amps with lights on. Don't know if the amps are different when running since it can't start. Any tips besides redoing all the connections. That gonna happen tomorrow.
