    Hey Hammer,

I wasn't dissing YOU, just the idea of using OPEN HEADERS/pipes, as has been covered by many other members here as to their characteristics. I don't necessarily like super quiet pipes either...I like to be able to HEAR the engine perform....just not ear drum shattering damaging levels. I also have an old 4-1 MAC system that sounded a bit tinny to me, so I drilled 4 holes in the end of the baffle/cone plate. That allowed it to Growl a bit more without being obnoxiously annoyingly loud, and I maintained the performance that I wanted and liked. The power band comes on at ~3500 all the way up to redline. I like to run it in the upper rpms a lot. Due to the pipes, it does do a bit of popping on decal, but I enjoy hearing it...Godzilla growling at me and such.

So...just trying to save you from the headache of trying to TUNE open header/pipes for performance that won't be attainable vs. pipes with at least some form of muffler albeit a fairly free flowing type that does make some noise and is not whisper quiet.

SO....feel free to put on open header/straight pipes....hope you can find someone that will like to ride with you. We had a guy many years ago that removed the baffles from his Mac 4-2 turnouts, we called him Harley Dave, and we MADE HIM ride at the BACK of the pack/group during our rally runs.

TC....all good. The guys I ride with are all open pipe so i'm the "quiet guy". Range from harley to triumph and victory. I enjoy the sound. Just trying to find a happy medium.

Ive been taking everyones advice into consideration. The great thing about mistakes is that they're reversible.

Mr H2-- I had Emgo bell style, and they were 2 loud ( only had a spark arrestor, no baffles). I added 8'' baffles, still 2 loud. Now am running Emgo Dunstall style reverse megaphones, and I like them. Just right.

When I lived in France, I read a report which said that an antisocially loud motorcycle ridden at night across Paris, west to East or vice versa, is estimated to wake up 35,000 people. So, lots of other people, parents, kids and babies all pay the price for someone else's inconsiderate choice of exhaust system. Which is why I prefer decently silenced bikes

It was loud but not obnoxious unless i really let it loose...but I could put around relatively quietly if I desired...kinda the best of both worlds
Until it FELL OFF in Vermont
But we soon had it back on thanks to the group and that kind gentleman who let us use his driveway.

Seems the driveway owner didn't have a choice with 15 bikers parked all around after chasing you down the street!

Had to wait abit till the muffler cooled off, and if I remember, we borrowed a bolt off your passenger peg?

No that was the cheap Jardine 4 into1 with the oval can...it fell off because the footpeg bracket was cracked into 2 pcs but it was when the bolts holding said bracket fell out that the muffler went skittering down the road right in front of you ...while I hadnt a clue until i rounded that corner but thought i heard something odd....
I did not acquire the Kerker exhaust until I had moved here to NC several years later... and that one never fell off. For me ...being deaf without hearing aids I had no trouble hearing my Kerker...it was loud when I wanted it to be...and that is the way most of us like it...mr hammer...YMMV
