When the ACCT craze first started, I was reluctant due to the don't-fix-what-ain't-broke attitude I tend to embrace. When the price of ACCTs began to climb due to new demand, I snapped one up. I eventually changed it out and screwed up my timing because the plunger didn't extend. Before I was done, I bent a valve and had to get deep into the engine.
After getting her going again, the timing looked right but wasn't. Help from this list led me to the fact that I was 180 out, which works, but not well. Into the cams again, then joy.
Lately, I have been using a lot of oil, even after replacing the valve seals, and oil is splashed on the engine. I was puzzled, because I didn't find pools when parked, only splashes on the engine after a ride. I thought my new head gasket must be leaking, but couldn't ID the cause.
I then decided that a weak seal around my ACCT was allowing oil to be pumped out under load and blown around by the wind sheer. I set my timing plate, pulled the ACCT and made a bigger, thicker gasket. I put her back together and tried to start her up. I soon recognized the sound of an engine out of time, the wrong cranking sound and popping backfires. Damn! Another bent valve...or more?
Back to the list. There is a sticky of ACCTs that work, which I thought I had already purchased. Back to Ebay.
