Since Monday, I've been riding him to/from work to see how'd he do.
Well, today was a bad day.
I'd been dealing with some lean conditions and thought it might be a fuel level problem and was going to tear into them this weekend.
Basically, I have no top end acceleration. I could cruise about 75 (5k rpm) but couldn't hardly accelerate much after that.
Getting up to speed seemed a little slow, but did okay. (not as good as Scarlet, she screams thru the gears)
Okay, Hugo has the oil cooler and lowers on the fairing.
Today traffic on the Slab was very slow and I've been dealing with some sticky brakes, so it was hard to keep him going stop and go. I think he over heated a bit. Also I was running low on fuel (trying to see what the mileage would be)
My theory is he was so hot, the fuel was 'boiling' in the carbs and kinda starving for fuel and it would even keep up at 45. I pulled over and put 1/2 gal in the tank from my can and cycled open the bleeders on the front brakes to see if that would free them up. Got back on and he ran okay for about 20 mins. at 75mph, then started sputtering bogging down again, I slowed and pulled over and stopped. let him idle for a second or two and he went fine til I home about 15mins. later.
One of the things I'm going to make sure I have the 4H0 TCI, just in case. I'll probably check the vac. advance to make sure it's rotating okay too.
Definitely pulling the carbs and totally going thru them. (they are the SG carbs and have the pilot crossover)
I'm also going to rebuild the front master cylinder and clean out the calipers too.
I think I was averaging about 45mpg
Last Sunday I had the plugs out and they were ghostly white.
Looks like I'm back on Scarlet for the commute. (got to order a rear tire for her soon, XS SE is right around the corner....)
